Installing UnionWay System

Before installing the UnionWay system, please make sure that there are enough free space in your hard drive. Different version of UnionWay system has different requirement for hard drive space. Please be reminded that the space available indicated would not be accurate once you have used the Stacker or Double Space utility program, this is especially important for those who are installing additional UnionWay true type fonts.

Installing StdPack 97

StdPack 97 includes standard input methods and bitmap font(s). Use the INSTALL program to install all the system files and font(s) to your computer.

For CD Version:

  • Place the AsianSuite 97 disc in the CD-ROM drive running under Windows system.
  • Use the File menu of Program Manager (Windows 3.x) or Start button (Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0) to run INSTALL.EXE file, located in the directory of the CD-ROM drive (e.g. D:INSTALL).

The Installation Center dialog box appears:

Type your product ID number (listed at the lower right corner of the CD sleeve) into the ID number columns and select the Full Install button to install all the files. If using Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95, the default destination directory is C:\Program Files\Asian97.

If using Windows 3.x, the default destination directory is C:\ASIAN97.

Click the OK button, the installation program will copy all the files to your hard drive. If you have CJK three languages version, the following message is shown on the screen:

That means the installation program will automatically install the three languages at the same time. If you do not want to install any language, just use the mouse to remove the mark "" from that language box. Click the OK button, the installation program will copy all necessary files to your hard drive and then prompt the following dialog box:

The installation program will create the UnionWay Group to place the AsianSuite 97 icon into it, press the OK button, you could get the successful message.

For Disk Version:

  • Insert the AsianSuite 97 system disk # 1 into drive A: (or B:) running under Windows system.
  • Use the File menu of Program Manager (Windows 3.x) or Start button (Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0) to run A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL ).

If using Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95, the default destination directory is C:\Program Files\Asian97.

If using Windows 3.x, the default destination directory is C:\ASIAN97.

Click the OK button to begin the installation and follow the instructions to insert the following disk one by one to complete the process. If you have CJK three languages version, the following message appears:

The installation program will automatically install the three languages at the same time. If you do not want to install any language, just use the mouse to remove the mark from that language box. Click the OK button, the installation program will copy all necessary files to your hard drive and then prompt the following dialog box:

The installation program will create the UnionWay Group to place the AsianSuite 97 icon into it, press the OK button, you should get the successful message.

When you start UnionWay AsianSuite 97 (click the AsianSuite 97 icon) first time from UnionWay Group, the Input Product ID dialog box appears:

Please type your product ID number (listed on the back of the AsianSuite 97 system disk # 1) into the ID number columns.

Note:

  • If you wish to UN-INSTALL the AsianSuite 97 system, just go to the C:\Program Files\Asian97 (Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95) or C:\ASIAN97 (Windows 3.x) directory and delete all the files.
  • If you bought the UnionWay true type font(s) too, the installation steps are as followed:

1. Insert the disk # 1 of one kind of font into drive A: (or B:) running under Windows system.

2. Use the File menu of Program Manager (Windows 3.x) or Start button (Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0) to run A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL ), the installation program will install the font file into the C:\UWFONT as the default directory.

Press the OK button to begin the installation and follow the instructions to insert the following disk one by one to complete the process. Each kind of true type font needs to be installed separately.

*After installed the UnionWay Asian Suite program successfully, please don't forget to install the Service Pack ( one diskette ) to your computer.

Installing ProPack or SuperPack 97

ProPack or SuperPack 97 includes professional input methods, true type font(s) and FontMaker utility program. Use the INSTALL program to install all the system files and font(s) to your computer.

For CD Version:

  • Place the AsianSuite 97 disc in the CD-ROM drive running under Windows system.
  • Use the File menu of Program Manager (Windows 3.x) or Start button (Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0) to run INSTALL.EXE file, located in the directory of the CD-ROM drive (e.g. D:INSTALL).

The Installation Center dialog box appears:

The following step is to install the true type font(s). The installation program will install the true type font(s) into the C:\UWFONT as the default directory:

Click the OK button, the installation program will copy this font file to your hard drive. Each kind of true type font is installed separately.

For Disk Version:

Press the OK button to begin the installation and follow the instructions to insert the following disk one by one to complete the process. Each kind of true type font needs to be installed separately.

When you start UnionWay AsianSuite 97 (click the AsianSuite 97 icon) first time from UnionWay Group, the Input Product ID dialog box appears:

Please type your product ID number (listed on the back of the AsianSuite 97 system disk # 1) into the ID number columns.

Note:

  • The FontMaker program will be installed together with the AsianSuite 97 system files.
  • Please do not install the true type font(s) and AsianSuite 97 system files in the same directory.
  • If you wish to UN-INSTALL the AsianSuite 97 system, just go to the C:\Program Files\Asian97 (Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95) or C:\ASIAN97 (Windows 3.x) directory and delete all the files.
  • If you wish to UN-INSTALL the UnionWay true type fonts, just go to the C:\UWFONT directory and delete the files. Also, you need to start the Control Panel program and click the Fonts icon to remove the UnionWay true type fonts.

*After installed the UnionWay Asian Suite program successfully, please don't forget to install the Service Pack ( one diskette ) to your computer.

Starting UnionWay System

In Windows 95/NT:

Start Windows95, click Start button, select Program, select UnionWay group, then select AsianSuite 97 icon to start UnionWay system. Once it is started, you will see the system tool bar as shown:

Chinese or CJK System Tool Bar

Japanese System Tool Bar

Korean System Tool Bar

In Windows 3.x:

Start Windows 3.x, open the UnionWay group, point to the AsianSuite 97 icon and double click the left mouse button to start UnionWay system. The system tool bar is as shown above.

Moving UnionWay System Tool Bar

For the convenience of both Windows 95/NT and Windows 3.x users, UnionWay system tool bar is placed slightly above the bottom of the screen. You may move the tool bar to another position by pointing to its blue border frame, hold down the left mouse button, drag the whole tool bar to the desired position, then release the left mouse button to place it at the new position.

Minimizing UnionWay System Tool Bar

The UnionWay system tool bar can be minimized to the icon by clicking on the button. This is not ending the UnionWay system, just minimizing its tool bar into the icon. Double click on the UnionWay icon with the left mouse button to resume the original display of the tool bar.

Hidden UnionWay System Tool Bar

The UnionWay system tool bar can be hidden by holding down Alt key then press key, doing the same sequence again will resume the display. This is very useful for some special situation where you want to hide the UnionWay system tool bar (and its icon), but still getting correct display of CJK characters. When activating this hiding feature will not end the UnionWay system.

Exiting UnionWay System

To exit the UnionWay system, click button with the left mouse button will bring up the Exit dialog box as shown:

Click OK button and you will exit UnionWay system. The E-mail address of technical support "tech@unionway.com" and the Web Site address "http://www.unionway.com" are both provided in this same dialog box.

Quick Example

Here are quick examples to show you how to use UnionWay system for CJK word processing. The four step guidelines are

  1. Start UnionWay system and a Windows application program.
  2. Select UnionWay system code page and one matching UnionWay CJK font in the Windows application program.
  3. Switch to CJK input method and input CJK characters.
  4. Use the Editing, Typesetting and Printing functions provided by the application program.

We use the WordPad in Windows 95 as an example (equivalent to the Write in Windows 3.x) to show you how to process the CJK text.

For Chinese User:

Step 1: Start UnionWay system and WordPad program.

Click Start button, select Programs item, and select UnionWay group, then select AsianSuite 97 icon to start UnionWay system.

Click Start button again, select Programs item, and select Accessories group, then select WordPad icon to start WordPad program.

Step 2: Select UnionWay Chinese code page and an UnionWay Chinese font in the WordPad.

You need click code page button (first one from left on the UnionWay system tool bar) to set to or . In order to display Chinese characters correctly, a Chinese font must be selected in the WordPad program. Use the Font List (or Format | Font option) to select a UnionWay Chinese traditional font (e.g., ) if code page is set to Big5. If you have not installed UnionWay Chinese true type font, you will have only two Chinese bitmap fonts (B 5UWCDEF to be used for Big5 system, and GBUWPDEF to be used for GB system).

Step 3: Select a Chinese input method to input Chinese.

After started UnionWay system, the default input method (IME) is English. Click the IME button to select a Chinese input method in the IME Configuration dialog box as shown:

For our example, select (English-Chinese) input method, then click the button to close the IME Configuration dialog box. You could also direct pressing Ctrl+Alt+F3 to switch current input method to.

Now we are ready to input into the WordPad. Type "ASIA" as input code through the keyboard, and you will see displayed in the Prompt Line area as shown:

Press the numeric key 1 or function key F1 will send into WordPad at the cursor position. If there is not the phrase you wanted on the first page, you may use the and key to page through the selections (refer to the Chapter 4 Chinese Input Methods for more detail).

Note: If you want to switch back to English input mode, just press Ctrl + Space bar or Alt + , or click IME button to select English input method.

UnionWay Asian system provides Hot-key to quickly switch input method between English and Chinese input methods, see Chapter 4 for the detail.

Step 4: Use the Editing, Typesetting, Printing functions provide by the application program.

You may use the File | Save option to save the file. In the Save As dialog box, enter the name "test1" for the file name (first, press Ctrl + Space bar to switch UnionWay system back to English input mode). In our example, the file "test1" will be saved under the "C:\Windows" directory as shown:

Click Save button, and your computer will have a new file "test1". To end this example, we will print our creation. In the WordPad, select File | Print option, click OK button in the Print dialog box, and the printout will show the same words that you entered:

For Japanese User:

Step 1: Start UnionWay system and WordPad program.

Click Start button, select Programs item, and select UnionWay group, then select ASIANSUITE 97 icon to start UnionWay system.

Click Start button again, select Programs item, and select Accessories group, then select WordPad icon to start WordPad program.

Step 2: Select UnionWay Japanese code page and an UnionWay Japanese font in the WordPad.

You need click code page button (first one from left on the UnionWay system tool bar) to set to . In order to display Japanese words correctly, a Japanese font must be selected in the application program. Use the Font List (or Format | Font option) to select a UnionWay Japanese font (e.g., ). If you have not installed UnionWay Japanese true type font, you will have only one Japanese bitmap font ( UWJDEF).

Step 3: Select a Japanese input method to input Japanese

After started UnionWay system, the default input method (IME) is English . If your package includes the Roma-Kanji IME, you may press Ctrl + Space bar or click the button with the left mouse button to switch to the Japanese Roma-Kanji input method as shown:

Now we are ready to input Japanese into the WordPad. Type "MIYOKO" as input code through the keyboard, and you will see:

Press Space bar to change the display as shown:

Press the Enter key to send into the WordPad.

Note: If you want switch back to English input mode, just press Ctrl + Space bar or Alt + . Or click IME button to select English input method.

Step 2: Select UnionWay Korean code page and an UnionWay Korean font in the WordPad

You need click code page button (first one from left on the UnionWay system tool bar) to set to mode. In order to display Korean words correctly, a Korean font must be selected in the application program. Use the Font List (or Format | Font option) to select a UnionWay Korean font (e.g., UWKMJF ). If you have not installed UnionWay Korean true type font, you will have only one Korean bitmap font UWKDEF).

Step 3: Select a Korean input method to input Korean

After started UnionWay system, the default input method (IME) is English . you could press Ctrl + Space bar or click the button with the left mouse button to switch to the Korean Hangul input method as shown:

Click the button to close the IME Configuration dialog box, and the setting of UnionWay system is changed as shown:

Now we are ready to input Korean into the WordPad. Type as input code through the keyboard, and you will see displayed in the WordPad windows.

First typing the key, the Prompt Line will show up as following:

Typing again, vcharacter will be sent into the WordPad at the cursor position, but still is left in the Prompt Line area.

AsianSuite 97 is for Windows 3.x, Windows 95 / 98 users only. If using Windows 2000 / XP / NT / Me, please use AsianSuite 2000. AsianSuite 2000 also works for Windows 95 / 98 but not for Windows 3.x
