    Input Symbol Characters

On the CangJie Input Method keyboard, there are a few symbols defined for input such as the comma, period, parenthesis, etc., but not enough space for mapping all the Chinese symbol characters. The Symbol input method is used for the input of additional Chinese symbol characters. While in the PinYin Configuration dialog box, set the current input method to the Symbol () input method. Or press the hot key "Ctrl + Alt + F7" to switch to Symbol input method. Internal Code Input Method

Internal Code is referring to the computer storage address of the characters and symbols. There are two major Chinese Internal code systems, one is the Big5 Code, and the other is the GB Code. The differences is the number of Chinese characters definition and the storage address. The similarity is that both are using 4 hexadecimal digits to register the storage address to a Chinese character or a symbol. The storage address for Big5 code symbols start at A140, and the Chinese characters start at A440; while the GB code symbols start at A1A1, and the Chinese characters start at B0A1.

The Internal Code () input method is especially handy in the following situation:

    1. Internal Code input method is the only way to find an empty room for creating new Chinese character using the Font Maker.
    2. Internal Code input will bring you additional symbols that are not found even in the Symbol input method keyboard layout.

Entering UnionWay Chinese system, English is the default input method, you can use the hot key "Ctrl + Alt + F5" to switch to the Internal Code input method. If you click the with the left mouse button, the IME Configuration dialog box will appear. Click the list box, it will bring down a list of input methods, select, and the current Chinese input method is switch to Internal Code. This dialog box is then referred to as the Internal Code Configuration dialog box.

Following are some of the hot keys that you can use during the input:

Ctrl + Space or switch between the current Chinese and English

    Alt + input method

    Backspace deletes the input code

    Esc clears all input code

or Space turn to the next words (phrases) page

turn to the previous words (phrases) page

1 to 8 (F1 to F8) are used for selecting the target word

While searching for a symbol in the Big5 or GB code system, you may begin by typing , as shown:

    or

Since the symbol characters begin on A140 or A1A1(4 hexadecimal digits), then use the õ or ô key to page through the list to find your target symbol.

The initial default set up for the Internal Code input is: after typing the complete code for a Chinese character or symbol, it will be send into the application program at the cursor position automatically. Please refer to previous section for details in the Internal Code Configuration dialog box.

    Using as an example:

While in the Cantonese IME, type the input code for, if the target word is not on the first page, you may use the Space bar or key to get to the next page. In this example, the target word is on the second page, first position as shown below:

The alternate text file format begins with the Chinese Word or Phrase + , (English comma) + Input Code. For Example:

    ......

Each phrase is limited to 16 Chinese words or less, but there is no limitation to the total number of entry in the text file.

    Input Using Clipboard

The very last item in the IME Configuration dialog box is:

This is not a default option.

UnionWay Asian system provides this option to use the Clipboard as a stepping board to inputting Chinese, Japanese and Korean words, avoiding the Auto Correct (or Auto Spelling Check) feature that is in some of the word processing application program such as MS-Word, WordPerfect, etc.

The Auto Correct feature often make some unwanted correction to the CJK words causing erroneous display. With this option enabled, the input to the word processor is actually first made to the clipboard, then sending the same input into the word processing program. Since the input is coming from the clipboard, the Auto Correct feature will not make additional changes to the input. Of course, you can also turn off the Auto Correct feature in the word processing program to avoid correction completely.

If you want to know how to turn off Auto Correct feature in the MS-Word, please read the Q & A Chapter.
